Budgeting Is Key: Know your budget, prioritize your finances.
When I was younger and in college a budget was something that I didn't think I needed. At least I thought keeping my budget in my head was good enough. I knew my income, and I knew what my expense were (so I thought), I didn't feel the need to write out a budget and because I was always on the go, I felt like I didn't have the time to write out a budget.
However, my priorities were all messed up, you can probably even say I had no priorities, I knew which expense mattered most but without a budget my top priority was rarely put first, and I had no guide to help me navigate through my financial chaos and set clear goals.
Once I started seriously budgeting, my priorities became clear, and it became easier to manage my finances and increase my financial health.
A Budget helps to:
Set Clear Financial goals - A budget helps you map out your financial goals so you can achieve them.
Prioritize - Budging helps you see which expense matters most.
Pay off debt - Budgeting helps to keep track of paying down debt and know how much of your income can be used to pay down debt each month.
Save - It allows you to find ways to pay yourself first.
See where your money is going - Budgeting helps us see how much money we have coming in and where that money is going, thus helping us make informed financial decisions.
Sets you up for financial success: some people see budgeting as only being for people who don't have a lot of money, but a budget is what helps set you up for financial success and helps you to maintain it.
Budgeting is your financial foundation
Budgeting is your foundation and your starting point towards building financial success. Whenever my finances tend to drift off course. I always go back to laying out my budget to get me back on track, it's a basic yet very impactful tool.
Getting Started on your Budget:
I've learned that it is best to write your budget down and don't keep it in your head. You can purchase a notebook or check out a budgeting app but whatever you do just be sure to write it down. This will help you see all of your expenses and the amount of income you have. When you know what your expenses are, you can begin to prioritize those expenses and take care of the things that matter most first. Budgeting is one of the first basic steps towards financial success and reaching financial goals. So, be sure to keep that budget!
